Overview

What we do in Digital Health

Metric Bio places senior and executive leaders across digital health, covering clinical software and platforms, remote monitoring and connected care, digital therapeutics, and the health data and AI products built on top of them. Searches are retained and run from vice president through C-suite.

Digital health hires sit between two markets. A company needs people who can build software properly and people who understand how healthcare actually buys, and very few candidates are strong at both. Most of the work in these searches goes on deciding which half you can afford to compromise on, then finding someone who covers the other half completely.

Market

Hiring in Digital Health right now

Digital health hiring has become much more serious about evidence. The period when a good demo could raise a round and staff a team has passed, and boards now want leaders who have taken a product through real clinical validation and a real procurement process.

That has narrowed the field considerably. Plenty of people have built healthcare software. Far fewer have sold it into a health system, survived the security and privacy review, and got it adopted by clinicians who never asked for it. Those are the candidates everyone is chasing.

Regulation is the other constraint. Software as a medical device has pulled regulatory and quality expertise into companies that were built as technology businesses, and the people who can do that job inside a software culture rather than a device culture are genuinely scarce. Budget time for it.

Common questions

Digital Health hiring questions

The questions clients ask most often before briefing a digital health search.

How long does a digital health leadership search take?

We work to seven days to a shortlist on most briefs. How long the search takes after that depends on the role and on notice periods, so we set out a realistic timeline with you at the start.

Do you work retained or contingent?

Retained. Our digital health consultants have spent years building relationships in this market, so most shortlists start from people we already know, and talent mapping, backed by our marketing reach, covers the rest of the market so nobody credible gets missed. Retained is what lets us give that kind of time to one brief.

Do you place below vice president?

Our focus is vice president and above, but we do take on director and senior manager searches where the role is critical, such as a head of regulatory affairs on a first classification, or a data science lead building the evidence base. What matters is whether it is a hire you cannot afford to get wrong.

Do you hire from healthcare or from technology?

Both, and which one depends on what the company is missing. If the product is sound and nobody is selling it, we look at people who have moved software inside health systems. If the product is the problem, we look at engineering and product leaders and accept they will need clinical support around them. Working out which of those you are is usually the most useful conversation at the start of a search.
