Another Month, Another Round of Big News

July has been another busy month across radiology and medical imaging, with some genuinely eye-catching stories emerging in the funding, partnership, and innovation space. Following a strong SIIM26, the pace hasn’t let up. If anything, the breadth of activity across the sector is a reminder of just how much momentum the industry has built.

Whether you’re on the clinical, commercial, or technology side of medical imaging, there’s plenty here worth paying attention to. As always, I’ve pulled together the stories that stood out to me this month.

Market Approval

DeepHealth Secures Two FDA Clearances for AI-Powered Breast Suite

RadNet subsidiary DeepHealth received two FDA 510(k) clearances in the same week, both representing significant expansions of its Breast Suite platform. The first clearance covers Breast Arterial Calcification Assessment, a tool that analyzes standard screening mammograms to automatically identify breast arterial calcifications, a potential early indicator of cardiovascular disease, without requiring additional imaging views. The second introduces prior exam integration into ProFound Pro, now rebranded as Mammo Dx, enabling automatic comparison of current and previous studies to track existing lesions and identify new findings.

Together, these clearances demonstrate how mammography AI is evolving beyond cancer detection alone, expanding into cardiovascular risk assessment and longitudinal disease monitoring. It marks another strong milestone in DeepHealth’s ongoing regulatory momentum.

Cercare Medical Receives FDA Clearance for Brain Tumor Segmentation AI

Cercare Medical has received FDA clearance for its Oncology Virtual Expert module, an AI-powered brain tumor segmentation tool that semi-automates tumor delineation from standard MRI data. Less high-profile than some of this month’s other clearances, but an important one for neuroradiology and oncology workflows where manual segmentation remains time-consuming and subject to inter-reader variability.

Keya Medical Receives FDA Clearance for DeepVessel Plaque

Keya Medical has received FDA 510(k) clearance for DeepVessel Plaque, a cloud-based AI solution that segments coronary arteries from CCTA scans and delivers quantitative measurements of total plaque volume, calcified and non-calcified plaque, low-density plaque, plaque burden, and stenosis severity. The clearance was supported by a multicenter US clinical validation study, which demonstrated excellent agreement with expert-reader consensus.

Combined with Keya’s existing FDA-cleared FFR-CT technology, DeepVessel Plaque enables both anatomical and functional coronary assessment from a single CCTA scan. Together, these capabilities position the company to offer a more comprehensive approach to cardiac imaging, creating a compelling value proposition in an increasingly competitive market.

Funding Updates

CARPL.ai Raises $10 Million Series A Led by IFC

CARPL.ai, the world’s largest radiology AI marketplace, has raised $10 million in a Series A funding round led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, with participation from existing investor Stellaris Venture Partners.

Founded in 2021 by Dr. Vidur Mahajan, CARPL.ai provides hospitals and radiology groups with access to more than 300 AI applications from over 100 vendors through a single platform. The company is already trusted by four of the world’s five largest private radiology groups, as well as government healthcare organizations across India, Brazil, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE.

The IFC’s backing is particularly noteworthy, signaling growing recognition that radiology AI is not simply a high-income market opportunity, but a critical component of global healthcare infrastructure. The new funding will support product development, expansion of the partner ecosystem, and continued commercial growth across North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. This is certainly a company worth keeping a close eye on.

Neko Health Raises $700 Million Series C

This one made headlines well beyond the healthcare space. Neko Health, the full-body preventive health scanning company co-founded by Spotify’s Daniel Ek, has closed a $700 million Series C led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and O.G. Venture Partners, at a reported valuation approaching $7 billion. Existing investors including Atomico, General Catalyst, and Lakestar participated alongside a striking list of new backers. Neko’s radiation-free scanner combines proprietary sensors, blood testing, and clinician review to provide a comprehensive assessment of skin health, cardiovascular risk, and metabolic markers. Having already delivered more than 100,000 scans across the UK and Sweden, the company has also attracted a waitlist of over 350,000 people. The funding will support expansion into the US, starting with a New York clinic. Not a traditional radiology story, but one that speaks to where consumer appetite for proactive, imaging-led health assessment is heading. The scale of this raise is impossible to ignore.

Partnership & Acquisitions

Cortechs.ai and Viz.ai Partner to Tackle Neurodegenerative Disease

Viz.ai has announced a partnership with Cortechs.ai to integrate the NeuroQuant and NeuroQuant MS suite directly into the Viz.ai care coordination platform, broadening access to quantitative neuroimaging for hospitals and health systems across the US. The initial focus is multiple sclerosis, bringing advanced MRI analytics, including lesion burden and brain volume measurements, into the same workflow clinicians already use to coordinate care, rather than relegating these insights to standalone reports.

Given Viz.ai’s presence in nearly 2,000 US hospitals, the partnership provides significant distribution opportunities for NeuroQuant MS and could help accelerate adoption of quantitative imaging in routine neurology practice. Additional collaborations focused on neurodegenerative diseases are expected to follow. More broadly, the integration addresses one of healthcare AI’s most persistent challenges: ensuring that actionable insights reach the right clinician at the right point in the care pathway.

Industry Insight

Draft Reporting Emerges as the Defining AI Theme of 2026

Signify Research’s latest AI in Medical Imaging round-up, authored by Umar Ahmed and Amy Thompson, identified AI-assisted draft reporting as the defining theme of the medical imaging market in June 2026. Aidoc’s FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for First Read, an investigational solution that analyzes chest radiographs and generates preliminary report text, marked a notable shift for foundation models from broad positioning toward clearly defined clinical workflow applications.

Elsewhere, HOPPR commercially launched Presto Agent, bringing AI-assisted draft reporting to PowerScribe 360 and PowerScribe One, while Harrison.ai introduced Harrison.Rad 1.5, a radiology foundation model capable of generating reports from medical images, prior studies, and relevant clinical context. The company reports that the model successfully passed the Royal College of Radiologists’ FRCR 2B Short Cases examination.

The key takeaway from the Signify team is particularly insightful: long-term adoption of AI-generated reporting will depend not only on model performance, but also on robust clinical validation, clinician trust, seamless workflow integration, and clear accountability frameworks.
