The Radiology Rundown 7th Edition

Welcome to the first edition of The Radiology Rundown of 2025, it seems a very long time ago since the last one and the review of RSNA. I’m starting 2025 in the same way that I ended 2024, with congress talk.

Welcome to the first edition of The Radiology Rundown of 2025, it seems a very long time ago since the last one and the review of RSNA.

I’m starting 2025 in the same way that I ended 2024, with congress talk.

ECR 2025

I’m delighted to announce that I will be attending ECR European Society of Radiology in Vienna from 26th Feb – 1st March this year.

This will be my first time attending the world’s second-largest radiological meeting, after 2 years in a row at Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and I’m looking forward to meeting so many of my network in Austria.

I’ll be doing a full ECR preview in February’s edition but look out for some spotlights on some companies attending and sessions not to be missed.

Industry News

The UK government started 2025 setting out their plan to tackle hospital backlogs for imaging and tests with ‘The Elective Reform Plan’. Expanding the roll out of Community Diagnostics Centres are at the heart of this plan like the one pictured below in Lincoln, opened yesterday.

This investment in imaging access for the community aims to provide millions more appointments for scans, in a more convenient location for patients.

However, the elephant in the room for this plan is always how these centres will be staffed by an already incredibly stretched NHS.

Society and College of Radiographers (SoR | CoR) CEO Richard Evans said on the subject last year:

“In some ways, what is happening with the CDC roll out shines a light onto the wider problems in the NHS our members encounter every day. Great ideas and innovation are being undermined by a seeming determination to do things cheaply, in a hurry and without the necessary strategic oversight and accountability.”

FDA / Market Approvals

With the amount of FDA approved AI solutions now over 1000, there were some more approvals announced in the world of medical imaging.

Medimaps Group announced FDA clearance and MDR certification for TBS Osteo Next Generation Software.

Oxford Brain Diagnostics Ltd confirmed they have received FDA 510(k) clearance for CDM Insights, their post-processing analysis software for MRI brain images.

In Pathology, Aiosyn announced their CE-IVDR Certification for Mitosis Detection in Breast Cancer diagnosis.

Funding Updates

Funding rounds have started strong in 2025, with none stronger than Quibim’s confirmed just this week.

Quibim announced a massive $50m Series A funding round. This investment with be key to their expansion globally, ensuring their technology can impact more patients every day. Congratulations to Ángel Alberich-Bayarri and the entire team!

Sound Blade Medical Inc. also closed a Series A funding round of $16.5m to advance their handheld ultrasound-guided histotripsy technology.

Digital Pathology AI company, Deciphex closed a Series C funding round of €31m, to expand their presence globally.

Sycai Medical raised a €3m round, supporting the launch of their CE-marked pancreas device across Europe.

And last but certainly not least, Median Technologies confirmed a huge €47.5m. This investment will allow them to advance their regulatory approvals and commercialization in the US.

Partnerships & Acquisitions

The trend of partnerships across Medical Imaging continued from RSNA, with the following announcements:

Cerebriu partner with Qure.ai, integrating their advanced MRI workflow automation into Qure.ai‘s AI-powered Stroke Care Suite.

Following their partnership with mediaire, AIRS Medical have also now partnered with Starvision, a leading radiological network in Germany.

CARPL – Radiology AI Platform didn’t slow down off the back of a busy December, announcing a new partnership with Intelerad .
